Why Your Flush is Weak (Possibly)

As plumbers in Cache Valley, we at Apex Plumbing have noticed a common trend: Toilets in this valley have an extraordinary amount of hard water buildup.
Why it matters
As hard water builds up on your toilet, you may start to notice it doesn't function as well. This is because the buildup is blocking the small jets just underneath the rim of the toilet. These small jets provide water that flushes everything down; thus, when they are blocked, the flush on your toilet becomes weak.
How To Fix It
The best fix is to maintain it. Rather than call a plumber every couple of years or ignore the problem, homeowners should regularly use a mild acid. Mild acids can be found at home improvement stores such as Lowes or Home Depot, or on websites like Amazon. Be sure to scrub affected areas with acid thoroughly and to allow it to sit for several hours before flushing. Long-term, it may be a good idea to install a water softener to remove minerals from water supply.
